Goodbye, Peter Pan
I think I'm coming down with something again. I remember blogging about being sick two weeks back. The only difference between two weeks ago and today is that I'm no longer paranoid of dying or being a part of the N1H1 statistic.
I've noticed that there are only 2 constant topics on local news lately, that being the Swine Flu and Michael Jackson's death. Personally though, I'd rather write about the latter.
It was that Friday morning last week when I found about Michael Jackson's demise. I was headed to the break room for my hot choco morning fix then. A flock of people were glued to the LCD screen, all quiet and sullen. The headline on CNN caught my attention. During that time though, there was still speculation about MJ's death since he hasn't been wheeled out of his apartment yet. It was easy to shrug it off since the validity of the headline was still in question until after a few moments into the program they have declared him dead.
I froze from where I stood, forgot about my fix and walked back to my station to tell the others. During that moment I didn't want to hear anymore and had tried to absorb what I have seen and heard.
I believe that I will have that moment retained in my head 'til I'm all old and crusty, just like the time of the 9/11 bombing and Princess Diana's death.
I've never really been a huge, huge fan, but I'm fan nonetheless. I remember having his Dangerous album (then on cassette) which I have played a few dozen times on my My First Sony radio back in the day. I still have that cassette tape with me, all dusty but definitely still in tact.
I found myself importing songs from his History double disk album to my iPod the day after his death. It saddens me that I will never get the chance to see him live ever, and how ironic it is that he's gone after I could have afforded to do so.

It's tragic that he has died without redeeming himself amidst all the controversy that had surfaced throughout his lifetime. He's a man misunderstood--- that's what he is. I don't care if he's gay, straight, black, white or a prescription junkie even. The man's got talent and that's something you can never, ever deny him of. He has made his mark in the music industry and he should always, always be respected for that.
Peter Pan has gone to his Neverland now. For the last time, let's leave him in peace.
