How 'bout this for Halloween?
I leave for the US on October 30th, a day before Halloween. I was told that my relatives will be throwing a costume welcome party for me when I get there. I've never been to an authentic, all- American Halloween party ever and I figured that I need to come up with something awesome for the said occasion.
I chanced upon this site after browsing and doing a little research for the perfect costume. Tim Burton's characters have always been the best way to go for dress up parties. You can never go wrong with a goth/shady impersonation on Halloween. Last year's courtesan/ vampire costume was a success (I actually bagged best costume for it, together with a colleague who dressed as The Joker) and I would want to do it again. Everyone thought I was doing Sweeney Todd's Mrs. Lovett and I believe that I gave a fair representation of her primary red and black dress.
I decided that I should dwell on much effort for this year's costume. It would be my first authentic Halloween costume after all. After going through the roster of costume ideas, I fell in love with Sleepy Hollow's Katrina Van Tassel. I have always been a big fan of the Victorian and Georgian era. Long dress trains, petticoats, corsets, stockings, bloomers, boots, long cascading hair and a lot of cleavage. I bet I'd look good in this one, less the cleavage. LMAO. I just hope the striped pattern wouldn't make me look fat. It's not as intricate as most of the gowns showcased on the site but I bet it would stand out perfectly.

Mom says that I would need at least 5 yards of fabric to achieve this look but heck, I'm all for it. My sister has a lot of cosplaying friends who could surely recommend a seamstress who could sew this number for me. I sooo need to schedule a Divisoria trip soon. Better find the perfect fabric for this fab gown and just worry about the hair color later. Two months would probably more than enough to achieve the look.I'm excited all of a sudden. I was initially pessimistic about dressing up since I didn't know what or who to dress up as. But since everyone's going through the trouble of throwing a party for me, not to mention dressing up for the occasion, might as well bring out the big guns and play fair. Heeh. Can't wait!

Hey, that's really nice.Ü Halloween Parties in the US go all-out so I say go dress up. Is your hair long enough? You can try to get hair extensions - just a wild thought. Goodluck Kaitlin and keep us posted! This will be exciting, for sure. Enjoy the weekend.
Oh, my hair isn't as long though. Maybe I could get myself a long wig or something. Hehe.
Ah, I hope I find the right fabric. Thanks, Russ! :D
i still think the brazilian carnival could have been better haha! it will totally shock and surprise everyone haha!
I'd dress Brazilian if you'd join me! :p
I like the Victorian style and I think it's cool that you're planning to wear something like that. Loves it!
thanks, chase! i've asked around for the labor costs, and it's all good, sad to say though, no one, not single one shop in divisoria has that fabric pattern. :( i dunno where else to look!
