Kyan's 5th

My son turned 5 today. I watched in marvel as I put him to sleep this evening. Not too long ago, I held this fragile little thing of 1.2 kg with one hand, in awe and wonder on how tiny he was. He was born two months short and had to stay incubated til his full term. I had to wait 2 full months before I could finally take him home. I remember the painstaking visits I took to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) just to watch how he slept inside that glass box, wondering when I could finally hold him in my arms. He had needles on him and a tube in his mouth down to his stomach because he was too young to suck and feed on his own.
To sum things up, he had incredible responses to his treatments and a few weeks before Christmas we were able to take him home. Things have been wonderful since then, my little miracle growing ever so healthy, happy and brilliant.

For his 5th birthday he asked for a Ben 10 watch. Little did I know that the watch that he wanted was not the one that gave the time. (Yeah, I am getting old.) Instead, it glowed green and made funny alien sounds. I'd have to say that this toy was rather expensive for it's lame features and it took me a lot of deliberation and friends' coaxing to buy it. You can't help but be practical sometimes, especially when you're a mom. I knew that Ben 10, just like the Transformers was a phase and soon those tiny green pieces that are a part of the watch would be thrown and misplaced in oblivion just like the rest of the toys.
My inhibitions were washed away after he got his gift though. He had this big grin on his face and that alone was priceless. The toy was worth it after all and I do hope that he doesn't get tired of it too easily.
We have yet to celebrate his birthday in school next Friday and to answer your question, yes, he's getting a Ben 10 cake.
